Something old, something new......

"Something old" represents continuity with the bride's family and with the past.
"Something new" symbolises optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead.

"Something borrowed" from someone whose own good fortune in marriage may carry over to the new bride.
"Blue" used to be a popular colour for the wedding gown itself.
"Marry in blue, lover be true."

"a Silver Sixpence" is for wealth and financial security and should be slipped into the left shoe.

Left: Half-Silver Sixpence of 1945 (George VI)
Right: Copper-nickel Sixpence of 1967 (Elizabeth II)

All Sixpences are silver in colour, but the make-up of their silver content ranges through solid silver, half silver to no "real" silver at all!
Silver Sixpences were
first introduced by our Royal Mint in the reign of Edward VI in 1551. They continued to be struck as full silver coins until 1920.
From 1920 to 1946 they were produced as half-silver coins.
From 1947 onwards the humble sixpence was made from copper-nickel. The last sixpence was struck in 1967 in preparation for decimalisation in 1971.

Wedding on a shoe-string

I think that's what we say - by spending as little as possible on our Very Big Day.

We moved at the end of last year & the new house (although liveable) needs a fair bit of modernisation. Therefore we simply don't have thousands of pounds to throw at our wedding.

The reception is going to be here at home in our lovely roomy new garden. I'm just working out how we're going to seat & shade/shelter our guests for the afternoon. It has crossed my mind that a beg, borrow, steal approach to tables & chairs from closest friends nearby may be the most favourable option. Thus leaving more spare funds for alcohol & all the reception trimmings ;o)

I'm gathering my best-friend hens in a weeks time for a drinks night in to muse some seating, catering & entertainment ideas. After all - its not what you know, but WHO!

Look what I made....

My kinda Wedding Invitations...
I'm really very pleased with the end result of my design. I couldn't have done it without the Sizzix Big Shot Santa got me for Christmas this year though. I've used Distress Inks to give the green card information pages an "aged look". Deep purple brads secure each bundle of pages & 1mm sticky purple gems lift the design a little.

Manufacturing 216 die-cut ovals and embossing 54 purple covers has taken its toll on my base cutting plate. So will need to buy a new set before my next project.

Card making

I joined a local card-making group last year, with a view to learning some new techniques in paper-crafting. The idea was to create my own Christmas cards & ultimately our Wedding Invitations too. Not because I couldn't justify spending £4.50 on a pack of 10 invites - but I wanted something "more" than a simple folded card. Something individual to us and our colour scheme. (cough!) MY colour scheme. Sorry hon!
Just one of my many creations for 2011
